Prayer
Prayer is an important part of church life here at St Andrew’s because it forms the core of our relationship with the God, who made us, sustains us, loves us and saved us. Prayer is where we spend time with our Heavenly Father in the loving relationship we were made for. And it is where we deepen that relationship. We praise God through prayer and we give him glory. In prayer we submit ourselves to his will for us, and we seek his guidance and wisdom for our lives, both individually, and as his gathered people. We also come to the Lord in thankful, prayerful dependance; recognising that all we have comes from him, and that all our needs are met by him. In this we pray both for ourselves and for others.
When and where do we pray?
Daily:
At StAndrew’s we want to encourage everybody in the joy and the discipline of spending time in prayer every day with our Heavenly Father.
Sunday Services:
Prayer for a key part of our Sunday services. We pray as we gather, we pray as we come to God's word, we pray as we receive the Lord supper together, and part of the Sunday service is given over to asking for the health and various needs we see in the world around us.
Prayer Meeting:
On the first Wednesday of every month our Growth Groups pause meeting for a week to enable us all to come together on a Wednesday evening at 7:30pm and spend an hour in prayer. We meet in small groups around tables and we are given notes with all the things we have been asked to pray for to help us focus our prayers.
Continually:
God’s word instructs us to pray continually, and at St Andrew’s we do this by praying together whenever and wherever we meet. From church council meetings to social events; and from gathering as a whole church family to meeting with one or two others; prayer runs through it all.
