Frequently Asked Questions
What do I do when I arrive?
You will receive a warm welcome from our welcome team who will be able to answer your questions and direct you to where you need to go.
Is there a dress code?
No! Please just be yourself and come dressed in your 'normal' clothes.
Will I have to join in?
Not at all. You are free to simply observe or participate as much as feels comfortable for you.
But I won't know what to do...
There is no 'standing on ceremony' here at St. Andrews. You don't need to know 'what to do', as the leader of each service will guide you through things step by step, and when you need to join in the words are shown on big screens around the church.
How can I get to know people?
We normally have a chat over tea and coffee at the end of the service, so please feel free to join us. If you feel uncomfortable starting up a conversation with complete strangers, please catch up with one of our welcomers or the people who have been leading the service and they will be happy to talk (it's what they are there for) - but please don't be afraid to ask anyone for help if there is something you need to know.
Do you have a toilet?
Yes. We have a toilet at the back of church (just next to the kitchen) and several more in the neighbouring church hall.
Is the church cold?
No. It is fully heated and carpeted with, what we hope, are comfortable chairs - it's as close to home from home as we can make it.
Do you make provision for people with disabilities?
We welcome people with disabilities at all our services, groups and church family activities.
-
Wheelchair users are welcome - do ask one of the welcomers who will be happy to help.
-
There is an accessible toilet both within the church building and the church hall.
-
There is a loop facility for people with hearing impairment which can be accessed from ground floor seating arrangements in the church building.
-
We are a dementia friendly church.
-
Weekly sermons are recorded and available for download from the media section.
-
There is a weekly group for people with learning disabilities during term time.
How can I give?
If you are new please don't feel you need to give, we are just glad you are here.
However, if you would like to contribute to support the mission of the church with your money or your talents, we would love to explore this further with you.
A
regular planned approach to giving is very much encouraged. You can give directly on our website
here or if you would prefer to give cash, pay by card or cheque, this can be done in church.
